Ten days before his first death anniversary, Heath Ledger has won the Golden Globe for the Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the dark, psychotic Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) announced their nominees recently, and Heath has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for these awards as well.

The Oscars - the ultimate award for Hollywood will probably not announce their nominations until later this month. But Hollywood legend has it that if you’re nominated for (and win!) a Golden Globe and the SAG, you can pretty much take it for granted that you will be on the Academy Award list too!

If Heath is nominated and wins the Oscar, he will be only the second actor to win a posthumous Oscar award. The first award went to Peter Finch for his role as Howard Beale in ‘Network’.

Among other Australian hopefuls, Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Australia’ along with its actors Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman have been snubbed at both awards so an Oscar nomination is probably unlikely. I haven’t watched ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ yet but I’ve heard Cate Blanchett did a really good job. Sadly, she didn’t get nominated for either award.

While I’m really excited that Heath has been nominated and am hoping he wins them all, I know I will be a little sad knowing he could’ve probably done so much more with his talent if he was still alive.
