First things first, your profile is you. Your profile creates the first impression of you. If you want people to be interested in you, you’ve got to make your profile interesting. Sure there’s some basic questions answered but it’s the details you reveal that’ll set you apart from the thousand others who’ve also answered exactly the same profile questions.
So here are some tips to help you create a good profile:
- What to Write?
This really depends on you but some things you could write about are your hobbies, your personality traits, your interests, your outlook of life, your likes and dislikes, the partner you’re looking for etc.
- Honesty is Essential
Don’t lie on your profile. Ever. Just describe yourself and be completely honest when you’re doing it. Nobody wants to fall in love with a fake.
- Upload a Photo
Profiles with photos automatically attract more attention because believe it or not, looks do matter. I’m no saying you have to be amazingly good-looking to find a date, I’m just saying people like knowing what someone looks like before they chat. Also, with a photo on your profile, you’re less likely to be a scammer.
- Do Your Research
If you really want to create a good profile, look around on the site. See what other people are writing. What makes you laugh, makes you cringe or attracts you to a profile? Learn from them and create your own profile.
- Individualise It
Once you’ve looked around, you know what’s completely overdone and you know what can make a profile stand out. Individuality counts so write your profile so it’s refreshing and not just another cookie-cutter profile we see on every site with a list of hobbies, likes and dislikes etc. Don’t just say something like “I like to travel”. Instead say, “I’ve been collecting souvenirs since I was a kid, and that’s when the travel bug bit me. Now I travel as often as possible, not just to collect souvenirs but because travelling makes me happy”. That is interesting and says so much more about you.
- What You’re Looking For
Don’t forget to mention what you’re looking for. You might be open-minded and don’t have a certain “type” but there are probably some characteristics you’d like your date or partner to have? Describe them and tell them why its important for you.
- Short & Sweet
Keep it concise and leave a little to the imagination. No one wants to read an essay on how much you love your goldfish. So write a few details and leave the rest for later conversation.
- Market Yourself
Remember, the point is to get yourself out there so that people are interested in you and get in touch with you. There’s nothing wrong with highlighting your positives and telling others why you’d make a good partner. So put some effort into that profile and you’ll do a good job of marketing yourself to potential dates. Everyone else is doing it so if you don’t, you’ll just get left behind.
So what do you think? Does your profile need a bit of work? Use these tips and update it now.
