Man of the Moment: Hugh Jackman

Is it just me or do I see Hugh Jackman everywhere I look? Oscars, Wolverine, People magazine, Oprah, ‘Australia’ – nope I’m definitely not imagining this one! He really is the man of the moment.

For those of you who have been sleeping under a rock, here’s why Hugh’s been in the news lately.

The Oscars

No, he hasn’t been nominated (and probably won’t be!) but Hugh has been announced as the host for the 81st Academy Awards which will be held in February, 2009. The critics are panning the choice because he’s the first host who doesn’t have a history of stand-up comedy (Johnny Carson, Ellen DeGeneres, David Letterman etc) but hey he is the Sexiest Man Alive; maybe the eye-candy will make up for the lack of humour.

People Magazine
Did I say Sexiest Man Alive? According to People magazine yes; and they say Hugh is perfect because:

1. He’s Australian
2. He’s “happily” married
3. He loves spending time with his kids
4. He doesn’t party
5. He makes pancakes

Sorry George Clooney/ Matt Damon/ Brad Pitt…looks like you’ve been dethroned!

Wolverine
You know how there are some roles which define an actor and no matter how many movies they make, you’ll always remember them as that particular character? I think Hugh will always stay Wolverine. And with the ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ trailer just released, there’s more of Wolverine to look forward too!

Oprah
If you didn’t see Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman on Oprah, you missed out! He was so adorable when he took them on that little Sydney video tour but the best part was when he handed out Tim Tams to Oprah and everyone in the audience.

‘Australia’
Okay so it might be nothing more than a glorified tourism advertisement but love it or hate it, it’s got people talking. Drover (Hugh’s character) is the quintessential Aussie beefcake and he’s got women drooling!

That’s the latest on Hugh. But every time you think you’re done hearing/reading about him, something new comes up so I think we should be prepared to see a lot more of him in the next few months.
